Sitting in a Northwest League bullpen long ago, Portland Mavericks left hander Rob Nelson came up with a fun idea: shredded bubble gum in a stay - fresh pouch. He called it Big League Chew. Rob shared his new idea with fellow Maverick, Jim Bouton, who eventually found a company that he knew how to make shredded gum. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, 40 years later and 800 million pouches later, this is the only gum ever honored by being exhibited at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, New York.
